Step 1
Know what a Fakie is. Anytime you are going backwards, you are doing a Fakie. The term means going backwards.
-
Step 2
Go to a decent practice area. Fakies are really simple. The most difficult thing about them is overcoming the natural mind set of wanting to go forward. If you can find a place like a park that has a quarter pipe (a ramp shaped like half of a U) or another similar type of ramp, it makes learning going backwards and getting out of the forward mind set easier.
-
Step 3
Keep your body up and centered. For speed, bikers tend to hunch their upper bodies over the handlebars. This is fine for going forward, but for Fakies you need to be able to control the bike by having your body centered over the pedals.
-
Step 4
Learn to do Fakies by riding forward up the ramp, then go backwards. The pipe gives you that extra speed. Do this over and over until you can ride Fakie without effort and without the ramp's extra push to help you roll out.
