Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin this BMX skill by riding your bike on a flat, level surface. A manual is one of those tricks that depends solely on balance. The faster you go, the easier it is to perform.

  2. Step 2

Place your feet on the pedals and pull the front wheel up off of the ground with a quick jerk.

  3. Step 3

Center your weight over the back axle, and push your feet against the peddles without turning them. At the same time, your hands should be on the handle bars controlling how high the front tire is off of the ground.

  4. Step 4

Stop the bike from going out from under you with a quick grab and release of your hand brake.

  5. Step 5

Keep the front tire from going down too soon by leaning back over the back tire and pulling up harder with your arms.

  6. Step 6

Maintain a manual by of pulling and pumping of your arms and legs, similar to creating the rhythm of swinging on a swing set.

  7. Step 7

Practice. The manual is a BMX skill that can be difficult to master until one day you just get it. From that point on, you'll be able to manual as easily as you can ride your bike in a normal fashion.
