Learning the bunnyhop on your BMX bike is something, as Garson Fields explains, that requires a lot of practice. You can listen to someone describe how to bunnyhop, but there's no comparison to getting on your BMX bike and doing the trick yourself. There are a few things to consider when you practice the bunnyhop on your BMX bike.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Practice doing the bunnyhop over and over.
Step2
Work on smaller jumps first, and concentrate on utilizing your legs so that you get the most power out of them when popping the back end of your BMX bike up, thus giving you more height to clear your jump.
Step3
Focus on your tuck. Work on fully extending your arms and tucking your body as you hit the top of the jump. This helps to extend the air time and it allows you more time to prepare the the landing.
Step4
Remember, as you practice the bunnyhop on your BMX bike, that the trick depends on three stages: popping the front of you bike up as high as you can manage, exploding up with your legs which brings up the back end of the bike, and tucking the bike out. As you get smoother and smoother, the steps will combine to look like one continuous movement. Until that point, actively focus on each step, planning ahead to make each one as smooth as possible.
Step5
Pay attention to each step. If you have the pop-up of the front tire down very well, work on the next stage as you practice the bunnyhop on your BMX bike. When the second stage is as smooth as the first stage, focus on the third step.
Step6
Perfect your form as you practice working on the bunnyhop on your BMX bike. There you can figure out how to gauge how much power you need from your legs according to the size jump you're clearing, how long you need to tuck, and how to nail the landing each time.
Step7
Tackle larger obstacles as your bunnyhop gets smoother and smoother. With all the work on your form and each aspect of the bunnyhop, you should find that you can jump higher and higher the longer you practice the bunnyhop on your BMX bike. Don't worry: the bunnyhop is something that you can work on improving for the entire of your BMX career.
Step8
Wear your helmet and stay safe.
