When California teenagers began imitating motorcross racing using their bikes in the late 1970s, they probably didn't realize it would grow in popularity to become an internationally sanctioned sport. If you want to join the world of BMX freestyle, learning to do a fufanu is a good place to start. Just get your bike to the nearest park and give this stunt a try.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put on basic safety gear including a helmet that fits well, elbow pads and knee pads. A novice rider will undoubtedly take some tumbles, and you can have serious injuries street riding if you're not protected.

  2. Step 2

Get up enough speed on your bike to get to the top of the ramp and while in midair pull up on the handlebars and grab your back brake.

  3. Step 3

Slam your back tire against the coping at the top of the ramp and balance your back tire on the coping.

  4. Step 4

Lean back and while keeping your balance for a couple of seconds, turn your bike just a bit. You don't want to completely turn your bike just yet, but you can't be completely straight either while doing the fufanu.

  5. Step 5

Turn your bike when you're ready to go back down and land your front tire on the ramp. Then ride back down and get ready to do it again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never attempt any tricks or stunts without wearing protective safety gear. At the very least, you should wear a bike helmet, and a novice rider also benefits from elbow and knee pads.
