Doing bigger 180s on your BMX bike is the goal of every BMX biker. The bigger the better, certainly in the eyes of judges and audiences alike. If you can do a 180 and a bunnyhop, then you can get some serious air over obstacles.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice doing bigger 180s on a BMX bike while you're on flat ground to begin with. As you get better, you can add more momentum by going at the jump from the top of the half pipe.

  2. Step 2

Turn the bike in the air so that you'll land going backward. Make sure you keep track of where you're going to land by looking over your shoulder at all times. You don't want to land going backward and crash into some immovable object or another rider.

  3. Step 3

Go to the top of a half pipe so you have a little more momentum to do your trick, after you're perfected getting a bigger 180 on a BMX bike. This will give you more momentum so you can get more air and clear larger obstacles.

  4. Step 4

Pick up speed as you go down the ramp by pumping the pedals.

  5. Step 5

Pop the bike up and repeat the process of turning the 180 as described above. You'll find that combined with all that practice you've been doing and the added speed down the ramp, you'll be doing bigger 180s on a BMX bike.

  6. Step 6

Stay safe. Pay attention to what others are doing if you're in a park where others are riding their BMX bikes. Always wear your helmet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not turn the bike a full 180 as you try to do bigger 180s on a BMX bike. You'll actually be going a little sideways, but the end result is the same. By going a little sideways, rather than whipping your bike around, you'll find you're able to control the bike more while you're on the air, thus ensuring a better landing.
