Step1
Play a major D chord. Put your first or index finger of your left hand on the second fret on the G string. Leave both the D and A strings open. Place your middle or second finger of your left hand on the second fret of the High E string. Strum all of the strings.
Step2
Try a major G chord. Play this chord by placing your index or first finger on the second fret of the A string. Place your middle or second finger on the third fret of the E string. Play the G and D strings open. Strum the A, E, G and D strings for this chord.
Step3
Move on to an A chord. This major chord is played with your first or index finger on the second fret of the G string. Your middle or second finger should be on the second fret of the D string. The A and E strings are played open. Strum the strings to hear an A major chord.
Step4
Practice all of these chords. They should be played with ease. You should be able to quickly and smoothly change back and forth between these chords before moving onto a song.
