As in conventional boxing, knowing how to throw an effective jab punch in kickboxing will give you a definite edge over any opponent. Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Assume your fighting stance with your feet placed shoulder-width apart, one foot slightly forward of the other. Face your opponent.

  2. Step 2

Raise your fists so they are level with your chin. Keep your elbows close to your sides.

  3. Step 3

Use the arm on the same side as your forward leg and shoulder for your jab. Extend that arm. Keep the wrist straight.

  4. Step 4

Step forward into the punch and shift your weight onto your forward foot as you fully extend your arm. This will increase the power of your jab as you place your bodyweight behind the punch.

  5. Step 5

Snap the jab forward quickly, then bring your arm back into the starting position.

  6. Step 6

Repeat rapidly to throw a combination of jabs. Always bring your quickly back to the starting position before throwing another jab.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not hyperextend the elbow during a jab punch, as this can cause injury. Keep the elbow slightly bent at the end of the jab.
