1
Make a slip knot, then chain stitch 20 stitches, and 24 single stitch rows to make a gauge, or sample swatch, measuring 4 inches in length. The gauge helps you adjust your stitches so that your project turns out correctly.
-
2
Begin your work by inserting your crochet hook into the second chain from the hook and work in single crochet. Turn your work at the each of each row. Repeat the same pattern for the second row, then fasten off at the end.

3
Crochet the front of the doll by making 21 chain stitches and insert the hook into the second stitch. Work single stitch, and finish with 28 rows then fasten off.
-
4
Stitch the doll's head. Start with a foundation chain of 15 stitches. Insert the hook into the second chain stitch and work single crochet stitch. Repeat until the doll's head measures two and three-quarter inches long or is 16 rows, then fasten off.
-
5
Work the arms from the shoulders down. Insert the hook into the second chain and work single crochet stitch for a total of 15 single crochet stitches on both sides.
-
6
Fashion the doll's legs and start from the thigh area down. Insert the hook into the second chain from the hook. Work in single crochet stitch and turn the work until you have 20 single crochet stitches on each side.
-
7
Finish the doll with a whipstitch to create the eyes, nose and face. Use a whipstitch to sew together the sides of the front and back of the body and head, arms and legs. Stuff them with batting or fiberfill. Sew the head, arms and legs to the body and the crochet doll is complete.
