Things You'll Need:
- Long sculpting balloons
-
Step 1
Fill a long sculpting balloon most of the way up with air. It's important to leave some extra space within the balloon. Tie the balloon to close it.
-
Step 2
Twist to form a small ball on one end of the balloon, no more than 6 inches from the end. Note whether you're twisting clockwise or counter-clockwise; you must stay consistent through the entire process so you don't un-twist any areas by mistake.
-
Step 3
Use the balloon to measure the person's head. Place the ball that you've created on the forehead of the hat's intended recipient. Wrap the tail around the back of the child's head and join it to the ball. Remove the balloon, holding the correct sized loop in place.
-
Step 4
Twist the balloon into the ball. If done correctly you'll have an enclosed loop for the head with a giant tail.
-
Step 5
Repeat Step 2 with the end of the balloon tail and then bring the ball forward, across the loop. Twist the balloon to attach the tail ball to the loop, opposite the first ball. You will now have a loop for the head with a balloon "stripe" across the top. To personalize the balloon hat, anchor additional balloons to the base in crazy configurations.
-
Step 1
Repeat Steps 1 to 4 from Section 1.
-
Step 2
Leave the long tail upright, rather than attaching the end to the hat.
-
Step 3
Experiment with the tail for style. You can twist it into a bunch of balls, leave a narrow section with a ball on top, or simply use it as an anchor for additional balloons. Wear it hanging down or standing straight up in the air. Get creative and see how many styles you can make.
