Step 1
Don't panic. Remain calm. This will help the mother to stay calm and focused.
-
Step 2
Lay the mother on her back, lengthwise along the backseat of the taxi cab. She will need ample room for her legs to stretch and spread in order to deliver the baby.
-
Step 3
Spread a shirt, towel or jacket across the mother's belly. This is where you will place the baby after she has delivered it.
-
Step 4
Check the mother's vaginal area for signs of the baby's head. Once you see the head, instruct the mother to push with every contraction. Each contraction will help the baby move downward towards the opening of the vagina.
-
Step 5
Watch the head of the baby and make sure it turns to one side or the other. This is happening so the mother is able to deliver the shoulders and remainder of the body. If the baby's body doesn't turn, try to assist it in doing so. Have the mother continue to push the baby the rest of the way out.
-
Step 6
Place the delivered baby on the mother's stomach. Wrap the baby in the clothing previously placed on the mother's stomach and give the baby a little rub down to stimulate crying. There's no need to cut the umbilical cord at this time.
-
Step 7
Drive the baby and mother to the nearest hospital. Keep both of them warm and safe until you arrive in the taxi cab.
