How to Drain the Oil on a Polaris ATV
Properly servicing an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) includes draining the oil and refilling the tank with fresh oil. On a Polaris ATV, maintenance requires the oil change in order to keep your engine running at its top performance. Dirty oil can clog the ATV motor.

1
Elevate the ATV if you can't scoot under it comfortably. You will need clear access to the bottom of your Polaris in order to reach the plugs necessary to drain the oil. A mechanic's shop can raise it for you on a lift, or you can pull it up on ramps made for that purpose.
-
2
Locate the oil reservoir on the bottom of the Polaris. It is found between the back wheels, slightly forward from the axle. The reservoir holds about 2 qts. of oil. A small plug is found on the underneath right-hand side of the tank.

3
Find a second oil plug under the motor, by reaching into the slot in the undercarriage between the front wheels and locating it just beneath the engine.
-
4
Drain the old oil from both plugs into oil pans and dispose of according to the laws in your community.
-
5
Complete your ATV maintenance by replacing the plugs and filling the oil reservoir on the upper side of your Polaris.

Tips & Warnings
Warming the engine before changing oil helps bleed the lines, resulting in better ATV maintenance. Run your ATV for 5 minutes, then shut it off and change the oil.
Only elevate your Polaris ATV safely when you're changing the oil. Use only approved ramps or a lift to prevent injury.
