Things You'll Need:
- Buffer
- Nail brush
- Liquid monomer
- Acrylic powder
- Adhesive
- Acrylic nail tips
- Clippers
- Nail file
-
Step 1
Buy supplies from a reliable salon or nail supply store. Ask an employee for recommendations on long-lasting, quality products.
-
Step 2
Wash and dry the nail. Press back the cuticles and trim, if necessary. Some nail professionals suggest scuffing or "roughing up" the surface of the nail with a buffer so that the acrylic nail will adhere better, but know that too much abrasion can cause damage to the nail bed.
-
Step 3
Select an acrylic nail that fits well against the end of the nail and apply it to the natural nail with adhesive.
-
Step 4
Combine the liquid monomer and acrylic powder. Drag your nail brush across the mixture until a bead forms on the brush. Apply the bead directly on the natural nail and begin to pat and smooth the mixture down into the shape of the nail. Repeat on all fingers.
-
Step 5
Cut nails down to the desired length after the acrylic has set. Dust off the excess powder and buff and file your nails before applying polish.
