So you think that you'd like to take up archery and you'd like to start by aiming at a 50 yard target. Refining your archery techniques requires some time at the shooting range and also a little coaching. Here are some archery techniques for shooting a bow and arrow at 50 yards from the target.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Recurve or compound bow
  • Target
  • Arrow
  • Backstop
  • Archer's glove
  • Arm guard
  1. Step 1

Adjust your bow sight to the 50-yard mark. This is imperative to get the most accurate shot and it is also one of the archery techniques that takes some practice.

  2. Step 2

Put up your archery target 50 yards from the shooting line. Be sure of your backstop. Use hay bales and be sure that a stray arrow will not damage anything beyond your backstop.

  3. Step 3

String your recurve bow by hooking one end of the bowstring around the bow. Gently pull the other end of the bow to the opposite end of the bowstring. You also may choose to shoot a compound bow which is more difficult to pull, but tends to shoot straighter for longer distances.

  4. Step 4

Push the nock on the bowstring just above the string stay and put the arrow shaft on the bow's shelf. Wear your shooting glove and hold the bow straight ahead with your opposite arm. Pull the string back until the kisser button reaches your lips.

  5. Step 5

Move your sight to the center of the target. Steady yourself, and let go of the bowstring. Let the string roll off your fingers and do not of make a plucking motion.
