Step 1
Decide what eye shape you have. Like a round face, an almond shaped eye is the most versatile in handling different looks. Other shapes are deep-set, close-set, wide-set, round, small or Asian. Ideally, the goal for correctly applied makeup is to make all eye shapes appear more almond shaped.
-
Step 2
Know the best crease color choice for your eye shape. Almond can choose almost any color, but normally a crease color will be darker than what you apply elsewhere on the lid. Close-set, small and Asian eyes need a lighter crease color, while deep-set eyes should avoid using a crease color as it makes the eyes appear deeper.
-
Step 3
Combine two colors of eye makeup for a more customized look, and experiment with colors that go with your skin tone. Use a brush to pick up a small amount of both shades and test the color blend on the back of your hand. Keep mixing until you find a shade that appeals to you.
-
Step 4
Use an eye shadow makeup brush especially designed to get into the crease of the eye to apply the crease color. Often these narrow or angled brushes fit naturally into the area where the eyelid bends.
-
Step 5
Rub the brush back and forth gently across the crease of the eye. For a more dramatic look, the brush can be slightly damp, which increases the intensity of the color when you apply it.
-
Step 6
Blend the color with the rest of the eye makeup and avoid creating a defined line in the crease. The effect should be subtle and blended rather than something that looks drawn on.
