Makeup for the evening is completely different from an everyday career look, or the more casual weekend look. Creating a dramatic and polished evening image with eye makeup will give you a shot of glamor and the confidence to mingle with any crowd.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select an eye shadow kit with 3 shades in the same family that compliment your clothing and eyes.

  2. Step 2

Brush your eyelids with face powder. By providing this base for your eye shadow it will last longer and look better for several hours.

  3. Step 3

Load the brush with the lightest color in your kit and blow off the excess. Apply this color all over your eye lid, just as you did the base powder.

  4. Step 4

Prepare the brush for the medium color eye shadow, again blowing off the extra powder. Use the medium-color shadow from your lash line to just above the crease in your eyelids. Blend it well with the shadow already on your eyes.

  5. Step 5

Select the darkest color of the three and prepare the brush as before. Smudge the darker color directly above the lashes to create a dark line.

  6. Step 6

Apply a small amount of the darkest shadow from the outer corner of your eye up to just short of the outside of your eyebrow. This makes your eyes appear larger and brings out the color of your eyes. Blend well; you don't want to see lines.

  7. Step 7

Smudge the darkest shadow along the bottom of your eyes, just below the bottom eye lashes. This can take the place of traditional liner if you choose, or you can apply eye liner after this step. Again, blend well.

  8. Step 8

Apply eyeliner if you choose to do so. For evening wear, eyeliner should be applied darker than normal. Complete this look with a minimum of two coats of mascara.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have trouble determining what eye shadow kit to use, select one that is comprised of earth tones such as golds, ivories and browns. These colors provide a healthy, sun-kissed glow that compliments every skin tone and all clothing colors and styles.
  • Eye makeup for evening wear should be applied more heavily than for day wear. You want to create a more dramatic look, so use a slightly heavier hand.
