To access the alternator, you will need to remove the vehicle's throttle cable assembly, or linkage. This is a fairly simple process that requires few tools and little time. Make sure to set the small components in a safe place as you remove them, since you will need them for the re-installation process.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the cables attached to your throttle linkage assembly. These cables will consist of the cruise control cable, which is hooked directly to the gas pedal. One way to find this cable is by sound. If you have someone push the gas pedal, you can hear it come up into the engine compartment.

  2. Step 2

Find the ear on this attachment and pop it off by pulling straight up. Next take the clip off. For the slide poke style, simply rock it forward to take the slack out of the cable, then wiggle it off. Remove the return spring next. Place the loose components in your pocket or tool bin.

  3. Step 3

Notice the now exposed mounting bracket mounting bolt. Break them loose with the appropriate wrench. They should come right out; if they don't, use a little rust penetrant to help them along. Take the bolts completely off and add them to your loose components pile.

  4. Step 4

Roll the now loose throttle cable assembly out of the engine. Place this somewhere safe and secure. Take a moment to look for excessive corrosion or other damage. If there is damage, you may need to replace the throttle cable assembly.
