How to Cover Your Scent Hunting Whitetail Deer

Nothing will scare whitetail deer away faster than a human scent. To have a successful hunt, you must learn tactics to cover your scent. A little preparation beforehand and knowledge of ways you can cover your scent when you're out in the woods will help you land the trophy deer of your dreams.

Instructions

1. Prepare the clothing you'll be wearing when you hunt by washing it in an unscented soap. Line dry your clothes outside, or if you must use a dryer, use a dryer sheet that's scented in pine or earth, specially made for hunting clothes.

2. Camouflage human scent with odor neutralizers sold in sporting goods stores for this purpose. Treat not only your specially washed clothes, but your tree stand, backpack and weapon.

3. Shower before your hunt with a scent free soap, and dry off with a towel washed in the same manner as your hunting clothes. Wear unscented deodorant and move slowly in the woods to prevent sweating needlessly.

4. Cover as much of your skin as possible, since it naturally emits an odor detectable by the whitetail you're hunting. Hunting clothes treated with charcoal are another option to help cover your scent.

5. Refrain from smoking or chewing tobacco and brush your teeth with baking soda to eliminate any odors from your breath.

6. Train yourself to be ever conscious of wind direction when you're out in the woods, so as not to tip off any white tail deer in the area.
