Step 1
Confront the situation by staying present. Keep your eyes and mind focused on your assailant and the position of the knife against your body. As you do so, consider your options for taking control of the situation so you do not lapse into fearing a negative outcome for yourself.
-
Step 2
Raise your hands in the air as close to the knife as possible with your palms facing outward and your body as relaxed as possible so you can begin the knife defense.
-
Step 3
Turn your head or shoulders if the knife is against your neck or chest. Bring the hand on the same side of the shoulder that's leading the turn towards the assailant's weapon hand. Use your hand to parry his weapon hand in the direction that you turned in order to get the point of the blade facing away from you.
-
Step 4
Push the assailant down by his knife hand. Continue to rotate your body in the original direction and push downward until your assailant is near to the ground. Bring your other hand to the assailant's knife hand so you cup his hand with both your hands.
-
Step 5
Twist the assailant's hand back and towards the shoulder of the same side. Lock the wrist in this position by twisting the wrist to its extreme degree. Once you've reached this point, move his forearm outside of his elbow and back behind him to lock the elbow.
-
Step 6
Move the assailant backward in the direction that you've twisted his arm. Eventually he will lose balance and fall backward. Continue to hold his wrist as this happens.
-
Step 7
Switch your hand position so that your supporting hand takes the place of the hand holding his wrist. Keep the wrist in its locked position as you do this. Exert more pressure on the wrist and grab the knife out of his hand. As you take the knife from him, cut him across the forearm to disable him.
