Acrylic nails are one option available for people looking to supplement their own natural nails. Between adhering the acrylic nails to the natural nails and creating the finished look, the cut nails must all measure the same length and be shaped. The end result gives a stronger shinier nail.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nail clipper
  • Nail filling tool
  • Sandpaper
  1. Step 1

Cut the already applied acrylic nails. Determine the desired length. Clip the first nail to that length using nail clippers at an upward angle. Continue to cut nails, leaving slightly more nail in case of an error.

  2. Step 2

Measure the nails. Line each finger up by the cuticle to the first nail cut to the desired length. Compare the each nail's length and make additional trims if necessary. Make sure that all nails are of even length.

  3. Step 3

File nails with a nail file to the desired shape. Use either a metal nail file, emery board or professional wet or dry sander. Hold the file at an angle so as not to braise the skin.

  4. Step 4

Remove excess glue used to apply the acrylic nails. Scrape nails with a light course grade sandpaper to remove any glue remnants in preparation for nail polish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure not to cut nails with a nail clipper straight on. This may indent the tips of the nails. Always cut at an upward angle.
