Once you have begun playing the guitar and practicing on a regular basis, you need to add some songs to your practice repertoire. Try "Crash" by Dave Matthews Band. The song has a slow tempo and is simple, since its entire melody is based on just a few chords. It is intermediate in level, but you can get it with practice.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with a G sharp. Play this with the third finger on the fourth fret.

  2. Step 2

Play an A next with the second finger on the third string, second fret.

  3. Step 3

Play a B with the fourth string, pressing down the fourth fret with your pinky finger.

  4. Step 4

Pluck an A. This is played open on the A string. This one note needs to be distinctly plucked to set it apart from the other notes.

  5. Step 5

Strum all of the other strings. Hear a noticeable difference in the sounds between the plucking and strumming. The strings that are strummed sound much more open, while the plucked bass string sound more muted.

  6. Step 6

Finish the chorus with a D chord without the bottom E string on the word "me" at the end of the chorus. You first finger should be on an F sharp for this chord. Move back to the G chord progression with the words "come into you."

  7. Step 7

Put all of the chords together to create the melody for Dave Matthews Band's "Crash." It helps to have a copy of the song to listen to while you are recreating the sound.
