Wedding invitations make the first impression. This about it--invitations are usually the first thing guests receive. They clue your guests in to what type of wedding it'll be. Whether it's a formal affair or a country picnic, the theme of your invitations say it all. Follow these steps to buy themed wedding invitations.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to your significant other or wedding planner about the type of wedding you want. It may scream "theme" with plans to have everyone dress up in period costume. Or, it may be a subtle theme such as fall foliage.

  2. Step 2

Identify what your wedding theme is. Examples include Hearts, Flowers, Natural, Black and White, Roses, Autmn, Paradise, Christmas, Beach and Daisies. Think of how your invitations can play a role in portraying that theme.

  3. Step 3

Decide if you want to make a bold statement or a subtle one. There are some invitations that cry out your theme as soon as your guest opens it. Others may have an autumn leaf on the cover, which would go beautifully with pumpkin votive candles and autumn wildflowers on the tables.

  4. Step 4

Look for invitations that portray your theme, even if you don't have much of a theme. It can be as simple as buying invitations with a horse and carriage if you plan to make your entrance on a horse and carriage. Or, get invitations with daisies on them if you're having your bridal party carry daisies during your Spring wedding.

  5. Step 5

Know that most invitation companies, online and in store, offer themed stationary as well as standard invitations.

  6. Step 6

Take time to look through invitation examples. You can choose them by looking at pictures online. You may prefer to go in person to a store or ask for samples so you can feel the invitations and determine the quality.

  7. Step 7

Order your invitations at least six months before the wedding date. This gives you time to check them for errors, assemble and mail them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Order at least 20 extra invitations. There are bound to be mistakes and you'll need more than you think you do.
