Guitar Hero is one of the most popular video games for any gaming console and tournaments are a great way to test your skills against fellow gamers. These steps will show you how to run your own Guitar Hero tournament.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find participants. You can do this by word of mouth or advertising. Consider how many game consoles and how much space you have for your tournament so you'll know how many participants you can accommodate. You may want to charge an entry fee to cover any costs you'll incur from hosting the tournament.

  2. Step 2

Prepare the venue. For a bigger tournament you'll need 2 or 3 playing stations with a game console, the game with 2 guitars and a monitor for each. If you limit your participants to 16 or less, one station should be enough. Be sure to have room for both participants and the audience to watch and a sufficient sound system for the event.

  3. Step 3

Create tournament brackets. This will also be determined by the number of participants. The easiest way to do this is to create a 16-player, single-elimination bracket. Each player will get to compete at least once with the winner moving on to play another winner. In the end one player will be the outright winner.

  4. Step 4

Determine your scoring criteria. While it's easy enough to let the game decide the winner by points, some tournaments also judge participants based on performance, awarding points to the better performer of a head-to-head battle. This also makes for a more entertaining event to watch.

  5. Step 5

Begin competition. In the first round all participants should compete on the same song at the same difficulty level. When the first round is over choose a different song and a harder difficulty level and continue this pattern until a winner is named.

  6. Step 6

Award prizes to the winners. You can give prizes to the top 3 finishers or the champion only.

on 11/14/2008 Thanks! This is what I planned to do but it helped to have reassurance that I was doing it right.
