How to Use Dryer Sheets for Other Purposes

Dryer sheets have many more uses than originally intended. While you may be used to discarding your dryer sheets after they've tumbled with your clothes, you'd be surprised to find just how useful dryer sheets can be around your home.

1. Pin a dryer sheet to your shirt or pants to repel mosquitoes, bees and gnats while working outside. You may also hang a dryer sheet above doors, windows and other entryways to keep the insects from entering your home.
2. Freshen stuffy places like drawers, closets, lockers, suitcases and gym bags by placing dryer sheet in the area.
3. Wipe your television screen, computer screen, other electronics and blinds with a used dryer sheet to deter dust accumulation.
4. Moisten a dryer sheet and run it over bathroom fixtures to remove soap scum.
5. Pass a needle and thread through a used dryer sheet to help keep the thread from tangling while sewing.
6. Keep your car smelling fresh. Place dryer sheets underneath the driver and passenger seats.
7. Do away with garbage odors. Put a dryer sheet underneath the trash liner in a wastebasket.
8. Remove stuck, food buildup from cookware. Place a dryer sheet in the dish or pan, fill it with water and leave it soaking overnight. In the morning, use a sponge and dish detergent to easily wash the buildup away.
9. Clean up after your pet. Run a dryer sheet over an area in your home that collects pet hair. Rub the spot until all the hair clings to the dryer sheet.
10. Control pests. Put dryer sheets around home foundation where you see ants and mice to discourage the pests from entering your home.
11. Rejuvenate a musty book. Slip a dryer sheet between the book's pages.
12. Tame unruly hair. Run a dryer sheet over hair to calm and set it.
13. Fight foot odor. Fold two dryer sheets in half and slip them into shoes.
14. Pick up sawdust. Run a used dryer sheet over the surface and let the sawdust attach to it.
15. Store sleeping bags and blankets with dryer sheets for a lasting fresh scent.
