When you are improving your golf game, hitting the golf ball farther is important. By hitting the ball farther, you can cut strokes off of your golf score. Although it takes a lot of practice and patience, you can learn how to hit a golf ball farther by following these steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ensure that you have quality equipment. If you have substandard golf equipment, you may never be able to hit the ball further no matter how long you practice. Check out the Golf Review website to make sure your equipment is up to par.

  2. Step 2

Increase the amount of time you spend in the gym. While massive strength isn't vital in the game of golf, increasing your strength can sometimes do wonders for your driving strength in golf.

  3. Step 3

Practice at a driving range. At a driving range, you can work on your power off the tee. Spending a few hours a week at a golfing range is a good way to hit the ball farther.

  4. Step 4

Concentrate more on a consistent form than swinging your club faster. A lot of golfers think that speed is the key to hitting the golf ball farther, when actually a consistently smooth swing is a better way to add power.

  5. Step 5

Enroll at a golf school that specializes in increasing striking distance. You can register for such a school at the Golf School website.

  6. Step 6

Remain patient with yourself and your golf game. Hitting a ball farther isn't an overnight accomplishment. However, with the right preparation and practice, you can accomplish your goal of adding power to your golf game.

on 8/22/2008 I took up golf in my 20s after years of playing various other sports. As with almost all sports, there seems to be a belief in too many people that practice and dedication will make any person a good athlete in his selected sports. The farthest I could hit a golf ball was somewhere short of 200 yards on the carry. Generally speaking, that is simply not far enough to post anything more than mediocre scores. I had various golf instructors look at my swing and after a sufficient amount of study, none could come up with the magic cure for slow hand speed. Finally one person suggested I play shorter courses whenever possible. That was the best advice I got. Now, several years later, I'll be on the course with a group of strangers and one will say, "Nothing personal, but you look like you should hit the ball a lot farther." Yeah, and Charles Manson looks like Jesus too.
