Proper golf etiquette is essential to ensure safe golf play. The rules and guidelines offer general and specific ways to play golf fairly and how to maintain a safe, fun environment.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know your tee time and keep it. Starting late affects the play of the other golfers that follow you.

  2. Step 2

Practice safety on the golf course. Never swing your golf clubs in the vicinity of other players. Wait until the group ahead of you is has left the green before you tee off to avoid injury. Shout "fore" if a ball you've hit is dangerously close to hitting other people.

  3. Step 3

Speak in a quiet tone during league play. Golf requires concentration; loud talking can be disruptive to golfers trying to tee off, chip or putt.

  4. Step 4

Keep a good pace while playing golf. If your group is slow and another group is behind you, offer the group the opportunity to "play through" the hole. If a lost ball slows the pace of your game, take 5 minutes to look for it. If it still isn't found, use another ball and take a stroke off of your game.

  5. Step 5

Care for the golf course during league play. Replace divots caused by your golf swings and rake bunkers to removed swing marks and shoe prints. If using a golf cart during league play, stay on the cart paths and follow the "90 degree" rule which directs the golfer to drive in line with the ball, taking a 90 degree turn to get to the ball directly. This practices helps to maintain the fairways.
