1
Get some Karaoke CDs of your favorite songs to practice with. Pick songs that are in your voice range so you'll be able to hit all the notes. This is more difficult than it seems because the key you are used to hearing the song in on the radio might not be the same key the karaoke CD was recorded in.
-
2
Practice with your CDs with and without the vocals. There are two tracks on most karaoke CDs. One has vocals and the other is just backup music. Practice with the vocals to get a feel of where to come in and how the beat goes first. Then play the backup side without vocals and practice with that.

Learn some singing techniques like breath control and vocal exercises. When you singing scales you increase your range, improve your tonality and sharpen your musical ear. All this will help you sing karaoke better. Practicing breath control will help you sustain notes longer.

4
Make the song your own. Don't try to imitate another singer's style, but develop your own style and version of the song. The audience will know if you're trying to sound like someone else, so it's better to develop your own style and your talent will shine through.

5
Consider bringing your karaoke CD to the karaoke club. It can be difficult to sing to backup music you haven't practiced with, and bringing your CD will give you more confidence and familiarity with the music.
