Your skin begins tanning when it absorbs UV rays. Safely using a sun tanning lotion with a high SPF won't stop your skin from tanning. In fact, using the correct sunscreen for your complexion helps protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays, while allowing your skin to tan without burning.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Apply self-tanners to safely get the tan you want. Many of the new brands include SPF in their sunless tanning lotions. A variety of shades are available depending on the brand you choose. This is a healthier way to get a tan since you don't have to put your skin at risk by sunbathing, plus you get the added protection of the SPF.
Step2
Relax in a tanning bed. There are specific tanning lotions for indoor tanning that also includes SPF if you have a high sensitivity to UV rays.
Step3
Lay out in the sun. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen on your skin 20 minutes before you go outside. Reapply the sunscreen every hour while you are outside to get the full effects of the SPF.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you don't mix indoor and outdoor tanning lotions. Indoor tanning lotions prevent sunburns and keep your skin moisturized to enable faster tanning.
  • Some parts of your body may burn easier than others, such as your nose or cheeks. Use a stronger SPF on these areas.
