The air intake system is responsible for getting air from the air filter box to the throttle body, or carburetor. It is the air supply system for your engine which allows your vehicle to regulate its own temperature and run correctly.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the air intake system tubes. They connect the air cleaner and throttle body, or carburetor, depending on the make of your vehicle. This tube will have a clamp on each end that keeps it in place.

  2. Step 2

Remove the clamps with a socket or Philips screwdriver, depending on the clamp screw. Loosen the screw just enough to be able to slip the clamp up the hose and wiggle the end of the hose off its connector. Do this for both sides.

  3. Step 3

Inspect the hose thoroughly looking for cracks, breaks, oil or other fluids, and excessive corrosion. Also, check for pest damage, as mice can build nests in the tubes. Check for any other kind of debris. If you find any debris in the tube, remove it and reinspect the tube for any other damage.

  4. Step 4

Replace the tube if it's damaged or excessive corrosion is found. The air intake system tube can be purchased separately from any auto parts store or the local dealer of your vehicle manufacturer. To save a little money, check at a local junk yard for an air intake system tube.

Tips & Warnings
  • Air intake system tubes are pretty strong. They will not usually need to be replaced unless they are damaged in an auto accident or during the removal process.
