How to Enter a Koi Competition

If you collect the beautiful, colorful carp relative called a koi, you may want to enter your fish in a competition. Koi competitors show their fish in a similar way to dog show competitors. Follow these tips to enter a koi competition and show off your koi to others.

        Find koi competition specifics at koi websites like Happykoi. Read fish magazines like Koi Magazine for upcoming contests. Chat with other koi collectors in koi clubs and koi forums to determine the best competitions to enter and the specifics of each competition.

        Determine your entry fee. Some competitions are free, while some require an entry fee and others require an organization membership.

        Understand the purpose of the competition. Know the general qualities judges are looking for like size and the specific qualities of each breed. Find out if judges will be using a classification chart.

        Read and follow all the competition rules. You may need a photo of the koi, a specific type of container and a certain water temperature in your tank.
