Use the pain compliance hold to control an opponent by inflicting pain to different pressure points. If the attacker has a higher pain threshold, you can adjust the move to make it more effective. Here's how you should execute the pain compliance hold when someone grabs your shoulder from the side.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a fist with the hand of the arm the attacker is holding. Take the back of your fist and pop him in the face. Aim for the nose if possible to stun him a little.

  2. Step 2

Swing your same arm over the attacker's arm and up underneath to bend it. Step forward to get close to the attacker while still bending her arm up.

  3. Step 3

Take your free hand and place it on your fist for assistance and greater control. Remain upright without bending your knees. This prevents the attacker from moving you.

  4. Step 4

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 if the attacker is still fighting you, except don't cover your fist with your free hand.

  5. Step 5

Move your free arm across his chest while stepping to his side. Simultaneously step behind his closest leg and take him down to the ground without letting go of his arm.

  6. Step 6

Vary steps as needed. Grab the attacker's arm and turn her hand into a wrist lock (L-shape) with her elbow facing upward instead of trying to take her down. Keep her hand above her shoulder and take your elbow to her forearm.
