How to Kern in InDesign
You may like a particular font family for a headline on a page you are designing with Adobe InDesign, but the spacing between the letters is not eye-appealing to you. InDesign allows you to change the spacing between pairs of letters with a process called kerning.
Instructions
-
-
1
Zoom in on the letters you want to kern by using the Zoom tool and dragging a marquee around them.
-
2
Use the magnification menu in the lower left corner of the InDesign window to see what you are kerning better.
-
-
3
Click in between the two letters you need to kern using the Type tool.
-
4
Move the letters by pressing the Alt plus the Left or Right Arrow key (Option plus Left or Right for Mac users). You can do this as many times as you need.

Tips & Warnings
You can also use the Character palette to kern in InDesign.
Be aware that the instructions may vary depending on which version of InDesign you are using.

*Reposting* Hi, what if i want to program the spacing of a certain character in a font set to be automatically adjusted every time it appears in a paragraph? for example, a comma (if it needs to be further away-every time it appears-from the next character that follows after) eg: what if,_ _ _ i want to program the spacing,_ _ _ of a certain character,_ _ _ in a font set to be automatically adjusted,_ _ _ every time it appears,_ _ _ in a paragraph? -
