Sometimes a page designer finds it necessary to copy text and graphics to Adobe InDesign from another page or document. Ads that run in more than one issue of a newspaper or magazine are an example. Also, a last minute design change may require moving the content from one page to another.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select an image or graphic using the Direct Selection tool (icon is an empty arrow). To copy text, highlight it or select the text frame.

  2. Step 2

Copy it by choosing Ctrl + C or "Edit" and "Copy" from the InDesign menu.

  3. Step 3

Create a new page if necessary by choosing "Insert Pages" from the Pages palette menu and then click OK.

  4. Step 4

Draw a new frame or shape for the graphic or text on the new page.

  5. Step 5

Select the frame by using the Direct Selection tool.

  6. Step 6

Choose "Edit" and "Paste Into" from the InDesign menu (or Ctrl + V).

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not copy and paste images from another layout program because they will not be linked to InDesign.
  • Be aware that the instructions may vary depending on which version of InDesign you are using or with Mac OS.
