Horse racing is a staple of American culture. The annual racing triumvirate, which makes up the Triple Crown is the pinnacle of horse racing, but scores of local and regional races are out there as well. To start a horse racing team you must have capital to invest, but you also need an education about racing and an understanding of horses and racing culture.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Talk to professionals. Take time to interview people involved in every aspect of horse racing from stable hands to veterinarians to jockeys. Ask questions about the industry and any advice they may have.
Step2
Spend time with a few horses. Starting a team is a major investment; make sure you'll enjoy it before you purchase any horses.
Step3
Learn about the sport. Know all of the terminology from a handicap to harness racing. Study these terms by reading up on the sport and by visiting tracks. Place a few bets to see how it works since betting is a significant part of horse racing.
Step4
Hire people to help. Although you may have the business acumen, unless you have extensive knowledge of horses as well, you must hire people to care for the horse. These people will include everyone from stable owners to trainers. Do thorough background checks and be prepared to pay more for quality personnel.
Step5
Enter a few races. The cost to enter small local races is not enormous. Get your racing feet wet by entering a horse in one of these races or by joining a partnership which prepares horses to enter races.
