Step 1
Create an emergency kit before the special event. Keep it simple, streamlined and small unless you want to drag a backpack full of hairspray around with you. Keep a handful of different sized bobby pins, an extra elastic or two, small clips and a travel size bottle of unscented hairspray to fix any problems.
-
Step 2
Use common sense. Obviously, most updos aren't created to withstand gale force winds, trampoline jumping, most conga lines and power naps. So avoid these activities if you're trying to keep your hairstyle intact.
-
Step 3
Leave it alone unless it looks really bad. If a few flyaways are the only problem, just ignore it. If it's falling down fast, add structural support to your updo with a few more pins or clips. Never remove pins or clips as you'll be playing Jenga with your hair and it'll just get worse or fall over completely.
-
Step 4
Go with the flow if necessary. If it falls down, turn it into a messy bun with an elastic and a few pins, or a loose ponytail with hair wrapped around the base. If it involves complicated flowers, twists or braids you may even need to undo those to create a simpler updo in a pinch.
