How to Weave in Ends in Knitting
Weaving in the ends of your knitting project makes the whole project neater. It also has the important uses of making sure that the ends of the project are secure. Weaving in the ends of your project properly will also make then entire project look better. You can weave in the ends at the end of a project or as you knit.

1
Leave a 6 to 8 inch tail at the end of any section of the project. This goes for when you finally bind off or when you join a new ball of yarn to the project.
-
2
Look at where you are going to weave in the end. The pattern of knitting, whether it is reverse stockinette, stockinette, or garter stitch, will make a different to how you weave in the ends.

3
Weave in the ends into the wrong side of the fabric. Slide a tapestry needle onto the tail of the yarn.
-
4
Weave through rows of purl bumps to weave the tail of the yarn through for reverse stockinette. On the closest spot next to where the tail of the yarn is go straight down through two rows of purls. Then come back straight up through the two rows of purl bumps right next to those. Repeat this step until you have used up a large majority of the tail.

5
Go straight down through two rows of purls next to where the tail of the yarn is. Then come back straight up through the two rows of purl bumps right next to those.
-
6
Repeat this step until you have used up a large majority of the tail. Follow the path of the yarn to weave in the ends in stockinette.
-
7
Pick a row of stockinette that is near the tail. Above that row is another row of stockinette V's and underneath it is a row of inverted V's.
-
8
Insert the threaded tapestry needle into the bottom of the V's above the row and then into the bottom of the inverted V's at the bottom of the row. This will weave the yarn in exactly matching the row of stockinette stitch.
-
9
Weave into a purl bump and then through one side of two V's to weave in the ends for garter stitch. If you look at garter stitch closely, it will look like a row of purl bumps over a row of stockinette V's.
-
10
Go down through a purl bump, sideways into the far side of one V, into the side of the V directly next to it and then back up into a purl bump.
-
11
Repeat the steps for each style of weaving in the ends until most of the yarn is used up. You want to weave in three or four inches to secure the tail. Cut the rest of the tail close to the knitting.

Tips & Warnings
Try to match the tension of the knitting as you're weaving in the ends. This will mask the areas where the tails of yarn are woven in and hide them from view.
