How to Order Layers in Microsoft Publisher

Each graphic or block of text in a Microsoft Publisher document is a layer within that document. You can choose to order these layers so certain graphics or blocks of text are behind or in front of other graphics or blocks of text. The steps below will tell you how to order these layers using the shortcut menu.

Things You’ll Need:

• Microsoft Publisher

1. Start Microsoft Publisher, and open an existing document that contains layers of graphics or text that you would like to order. If you'd prefer, you can start a new blank document and insert several graphics or blocks of text that you can put into an order.
2. Right-click on the graphic or block of text that you want to appear as the very last layer, or underneath all of the other graphics and blocks of text.
3. Choose "Order" and then "Send Backward" from the shortcut menu to send this graphic or block of text to the very back of the document.
4. Select and right-click on top of a graphic or block of text that you want to send behind another graphic or block of text and choose "Order" and then "Send Back" from the shortcut menu.
5. Right-click on top of a graphic or block of text that you would like to appear in front of another layer of graphic or text, choose "Order" and then click on "Bring Forward."
6. Click to select the graphic or block of text you want to appear in the front layer, or the layer on top of all the other layers of graphic or text.
7. Right-click to bring up the shortcut menu, point to "Order" and choose "Bring to Front" to bring the graphic or text to very top layer of the Publisher document.

Tips & Warnings

• Insert graphics into Publisher by choosing the "Insert" menu, pointing to "Picture" and clicking "File" or "Clip Art."
