1
Purchase a padded envelope that is large enough for the gift you are giving. Pick an envelope that is larger than the gift, just to be on the safe side. Buy a foil lined envelope, or a plain white envelope for the best results.
-
2
Leave the top flap of the envelope open. Measure and mark 1/2 inch from the envelope opening on each side. Make the mark as close to the side seam as possible.

3
Cut a 12-inch piece of ribbon. Prevent the ribbon ends from fraying by cutting them at an angle. Carefully melt the ends of the ribbon with a small flame if the ribbon frays easily.
-
4
Slip each end of the ribbon through each hole at the top of the gift bag. Secure the ribbon by tying double knots on each side. Tie a square knot for a more finished look.
-
5
Wrap the gift in colorful tissue paper. Slide the gift in the bag. Add crumpled tissue to the top of the bag, to cover the gift. Leave the flap of the envelope open.
-
6
Make padded envelope gift bags to hold party favors for a polka dot themed party. Use polka dot ribbon for the handle. Fill the bag with dot candies, gum balls, dot stickers and other round items. Decorate the outside of the bag with dot stickers.
