How to Do Plyometrics for the Upper Body

Plyometrics takes you to a whole new sports performance level for your upper body. The exercises build muscular strength and ability by following the exact manner to apply your body's strength and power explosively and quickly, as observed in these steps.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two 4-inch plyometrics boxes

    Plyometric Box Push Ups

  1. Step 1

    Set the 4-inch plyometric boxes a little wider than standard push-ups width apart.

  2. Step 2

    Place hands on boxes.

  3. Step 3

    Push the hands off the boxes and drop them to the ground holding your weight like in a push up.

  4. Step 4

    Push hard up right when the hands contact the ground and land the hands back up on the boxes. Almost like jumping up on the boxes with your arms, chest and hands.

  5. Step 5

    Do not keep your hands on the ground. Keep moving them on to the boxes.

  6. Step 6

    Perform the push ups 10 to 20 times, gradually increasing the repetitions.

  7. Plyometrics Drop Push-Ups

  8. Step 1

    Rest your knees on the ground with proper push-up posture.

  9. Step 2

    Ask your partner to stand in back of you, straddle your bent legs and hold you at the shoulders with his hands on each side of the shoulders.

  10. Step 3

    Flex your arms into a push-up position.

  11. Step 4

    Allow your partner to hold your weight from the shoulders. Ask him to let you drop to the ground.

  12. Step 5

    Land in your push-up position and immediately explode back up to your partner's grasp.

  13. Med Ball Trunk Twists

  14. Step 1

    Sit on a mat with knees flexed.

  15. Step 2

    Pick up the med ball and hold it near your chest.

  16. Step 3

    Flex your arms slightly.

  17. Step 4

    Twist your trunk to one side and then to the other side, back and forth 10 to 20 times.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a fantastic exercise that maximizes upper body strength.
  • Position the boxes so they won't slip.
  • Warm up before you perform these intense exercise.
