How to Crochet a Dishcloth

You'd like to crochet a dishcloth to coordinate with your kitchen's new decor, but you're new to the art of crochet and aren't sure where to start. With a little time and a ball of yarn you can crochet a dishcloth in no time flat. This great beginner crochet pattern will give anyone the confidence to try something bigger.

Instructions

1. Select a color of worsted weight cotton yarn that goes with your decor. "Peaches'n Cream" is a popular brand and it comes in a small skein which is the perfect size for a small project like this dishcloth pattern.

2. Chain 21 stitches with your cotton worsted weight yarn. You should now have a braid-type looking chain with 18 loops. Count your stitches to make sure you have the correct amount.

3. Half-double crochet into the third stitch from the crochet hook. Continue this in the rest of the stitches in the row.

4. Make two chains in the last half-double crochet and then turn the work over and half-double crochet in the back of each half-double crochet. Repeat this step until your work is square.

5. Slip one stitch and make two chain stitches. Put three half-double crochets in the corner and half-double crochet around the outside of your square. At each corner put three half-double crochets to "turn the corner."

6. Repeat this process until you have three rows around the outside of your square. Slip one stitch at the corner to finish off the dishcloth and enjoy.
