How to Use Lego Digital Designer

Lego Digital Designer allows you to have fun with Legos and avoid the mess. Available for download free from the Lego website, Lego Digital Design allows you to use your imagination to create anything you want. You can even purchase your personal design in a Lego kit made just for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Lego Digital Designer. Choose between building from a starter model, creating your own unique creation, or adding to an already existing model. The last option is great for those huge creations that take time.

    • 2

Use the tool bar in the lower-right corner to rotate your view or make the model larger or smaller. By using the arrows, you can view any side of the model you're building, including the top and the bottom. This view will include the grids to show you exactly how the bricks are attached to their palette.

    • 3

Locate the thin silver bar that runs across the top of your model palette, called the brick palette. This is a selection bar from which you'll select the things you need to build, including a variety of bricks, hinges, wheels and more.

    • 4

Click on the square at the right of the brick palette to bring up a menu. The options with a "+" on the lower-right indicate that those items come in a variety. Clicking to see more choices in that category.

    • 5

Double-click on the item you want to select from your brick palette and then click the menu closed. This will take you back to your model palette.

    • 6

Use your mouse to drag the selected item to your model. Once you've determined its proper location, simply click the mouse to drop it into place.

    • 7

Continue until you've completed your model. You can save your model at any time by clicking "File," "Save As" and naming your model. You can also click on the globe at the top of the page to upload your design to Lego's website. Or, click the dollar sign to see how much it would cost to purchase your creation.
