How to Care for a Dwarf

Rate: (1 Ratings)

Many people can be thoughtless and unkind to little people, a condition commonly referred to as dwarfism. If you're close to someone who is a dwarf, you may find there are ways you can show respect and care while educating the public about an often misunderstood part of the population.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging
Step1
Make sure your home is set up to accommodate someone who doesn't have the same height and reach of an average person. Many everyday items might prove needlessly difficult if you don't exercise some household planning.
Step2
Remember to use equitable language when referring to the person who is a dwarf. Not showing respect and consideration will sabotage the degree of care you extend.
Step3
Arrange for trips out as often as possible that will make the dwarf feel comfortable with his or her environment. You should seek to achieve a kind of invisibility in the sense that the person's condition should become a non-issue.
Step4
Talk openly with the dwarf about his concerns over how others perceive him if he initiates the conversation. If you show that you care about their opinion it will build trust down the line.
Step5
Remain open to learning things about yourself from the time you spend with the dwarf. A renewed sense of perspective allows you to see the world from an entirely different vantage point.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be prepared for public staring. Many people will see the dwarf as a novelty and their blatant lack of respect may be difficult to take, but keep your cool.
