Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stencil design
  • Pencil or chalk line
  • Tape
  • Stencil paint
  • Stencil (stippling) brush
  1. Step 1

Find the perfect stencil design. You can select a traditional looking headboard or something a bit more whimsical, such as a picket fence or wrought iron gate.

  2. Step 2

Purchase enough of the stencil design to make the entire headboard all at one time. This way you do not have to wait for the stencil to dry before moving on to the next section.

  3. Step 3

Clean the wall where you intend to stencil your headboard with warm water and soap.

  4. Step 4

Draw a light pencil or chalk line to mark the top and sides of your headboard.

  5. Step 5

Move your bed away from the wall before you start painting, to give yourself plenty of room to work.

  6. Step 6

Tape the stencils in place. Stand back and make sure it is the right height and width.

  7. Step 7

Use a stippling brush to apply stencil paint. Both the paint and the brush are designed specifically for stenciling. Remove the stencils carefully, once the paint has completely dried.
