Step 1
Choose candle sconces that are covered with a hurricane glass or some other kind of glass to keep them safer from accidents, especially with children around. A glass covering also will help eliminate dripped wax on your floor or walls.
-
Step 2
Allow enough space away from surrounding art, curtains, coat racks and anything else that could catch fire while burning your candles. Consider the height of the candle when you measure to hang the sconce.
-
Step 3
Make sure sconce is secured tightly to the wall using a wall anchor. Make the hole for the screw, and then insert the proper anchor for the size screw you plan to use. As the candle burns and the weight of candle shifts, an anchor that is too big for the screw could make the candle vulnerable to tipping.
-
Step 4
Use hardware made for hanging planters and other heavy objects. You can hang a candle holder from the ends of these brackets, making your own wall sconce. You will some flexibility when candles may not be appropriate, such as when you will have a lot of traffic in the area or when mischievous children are around.
-
Step 5
Melt a bit of wax in the holder before you insert the candle in the wall sconce. Put the candle in immediately so that the melted wax will help keep the candle firmly in place.
