How to See the Freedom Festival Fireworks
The International Freedom Festival Fireworks is an old tradition between the cities of Detroit and Windsor. The idea was conceived by Paul Lutzeier, a student at the College of the City of Detroit, now known as Wayne State University. He thought the two countries should share not only a border, but a joint Independence Day celebration. The celebration features the Target Fireworks display over the Detroit River. Does this Spark an idea?

If you don't have to be at work early on Tuesday, then staying overnight a one of the many Windsor river front hotels - is a lot of fun, esp. if traveling with kids. You can watch the fireworks from your room, or go to the waterfront, toss down a blanket and enjoy the show. When the shows over, you can go back to room rather than fighting traffic across the Bridge/tunnel for hours on end. Another option, there are parking structures along the Detroit river front where people set up grills, chairs, etc - and do a little cement day camping. It's totally safe and very crowded. The problem with seeing the fireworks on the Detroit side is that the buildings resonate after each firework is set off. It's sort of annoying. You could always go to Hockey Town Cafe rooftop bar and watch from there - less noise and less crowds, plus, easy freeway access. Don't miss out - not matter what - we -
