Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Allow your child to lead the conversation. Give them the information they ask for but don't elaborate. Kids will ask for the information they want to have.
Step2
Use appropriate terminology instead of making up names for body parts and bodily functions.
Step3
Find out what your child knows about sex. This gives you a starting point and also allows you to correct misinformation.
Step4
Explain that sperm comes from a variety of places, just like kids do. Not all families have a mother and a father, nor do all sperm come from the same location. This allows you to help prevent confusion and helps teach your child to remain open minded.
Step5
Teach them that sperm without an egg can not make a baby and an egg without the sperm can not make a baby either. Parents who want to have babies need both.
Step6
Prepare to have this conversation multiple times as your kids grow. As their level of awareness grows, they'll have more questions and want more information both in volume and in depth.
