Step 1
Study and watch movies in the genre. Determine the factors that make summer blockbusters sell to the public and the studios. Most summer blockbusters include fast-paced action, hilarious comedic moments, appeal for many different age groups and dramatic tension. For example, movies like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Shrek" have been successful in the past.
-
Step 2
Come up with an original idea, as studios will not look favorably on a new writer who simply attempts to rehash the plots of old summer blockbusters. Purchase a pocket-sized notebook and carry it around with you, writing your ideas right away, so you do not forget them. Sometimes the most bizarre ideas evolve into original and interesting scripts.

Step 3
Learn how to format your script correctly before you begin writing. Sign up for a free account on the Script Buddy website to store your scripts and format them in a template or purchase screenwriting software, such as the popular Final Draft at the Final Draft website (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Begin writing your script by developing a list of character descriptions and an outline of the scenes of the screenplay. This organization is important to the logical development of the script, but revisions can be made as you write. Interesting plot development and believable characters are 2 of the most important aspects of a blockbuster script.

Step 5
Give motivation and structure to your writing by signing up for an online screenwriting class. Check out JER Group at the Course Catalog website and the Gotham Writers Workshop website for course offerings (see Resources below). Taking a course will help you to write and revise your script, receiving professional feedback on whether the script you write is blockbuster movie material.
