One of the unique features of the iPod touch is that in addition to transferring music and video from your computer's iTunes Library, you can also download music directly through the iPod touch from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Now you can really get your favorite songs quickly, no matter where you are.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ITunes Music Store account
  • Credit card or iTunes gift card
  • USB cable
  1. Step 1

Make sure the WI-Fi option on your iPod touch is turned on by looking for the rainbow-shaped status bar at the top of the home screen. You will not be able to connect if Wi-Fi is turned off. To turn on the Wi-Fi, touch "Settings," "Wi-Fi" and "On."

  2. Step 2

Download iTunes to your computer if you do not already have it installed. A free software download is available from the Apple website, though you will still need to pay for your music purchases (see Resources below). If you would rather set up an iTunes account directly through your iPod touch, touch "iTunes" and go to "Store" and "Account."

  3. Step 3

Tap the "iTunes" icon on your iPod touch home screen to open up the application. Touching "Store" will take you to an area with featured songs and Top 10 albums and song lists.

  4. Step 4

Search for a particular artist, name of song or name of album by typing a word or phrase into the search box.

  5. Step 5

Tap the song you want to buy from the list of results. A detailed entry will tell you the artist, album, year it was released and the price of the item.

  6. Step 6

Touch the price of your selected song and "Buy Now." You may be asked to enter in your iTunes account password if you have not signed in to your account recently. Once you have authorized the purchase, the credit card or iTunes gift card that is associated with your account will be charged.

  7. Step 7

Allow the music to download through your iPod touch without leaving the wireless network hotspot if possible. You will not lose your song if you need to leave the area, but the download process will need to restart the next time you enter a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to sync the music that you have purchased on your iPod touch back to your computer. This will help you keep track of the music and videos you have bought and will lessen the risk of making a duplicate purchase.
