Cardio Barre is a fitness workout made popular in LA. It incorporates a traditional ballet barre--used for balance and support--into a challenging cardio workout. Cardio Barre aficionados appreciate the way this workout combines cardio exercises with weight training and stretching to provide all-around benefits similar to what professional dancers enjoy. Cardio Barre workouts are increasing in popularity--with a little searching, you may be able to find one near you.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an experienced instructor who designs workouts that effectively combine continual movements with resistance. This combination promotes fat burning as well as muscle toning. Call local fitness clubs for information about their class offerings.

  2. Step 2

Take a class in Cardio Barre that concentrates on development of the body's core. A strong core is essential for endurance and posture.

  3. Step 3

Insist on a workout that is easy on the knees. A good instructor can design a class that will not overly impact the joints.

  4. Step 4

Dress in breathable clothing for your workout and put up long hair. Cardio Barre workouts start quickly, causing you to perspire within a short amount of time.

  5. Step 5

Warm up before your workout and cool down your muscles afterward. Proper stretches help prevent injuries from all forms of physical activity.

  6. Step 6

Pace yourself when doing a Cardio Barre workout. Do not attempt to keep up with others who may be more experienced or generally stronger.

  7. Step 7

Keep a towel handy to wipe off sweat from your hands as you take your class. Some people prefer to use rosin to help eliminate wetness.

  8. Step 8

Ask your instructor to correct problems with your alignment if they arise. Exercises done without proper positioning will negatively impact your body.

  9. Step 9

Drink plenty of water before and after the workout. Cardio Barre is highly aerobic and requires constant strength which can drain you of reserves in a short amount of time.

  10. Step 10

on 10/15/2008 Cardio Barre is currently only available in California. But cross your fingers that it opens up to the rest of the country soon! ;) In the mean time you can get the video workout.
