You have your sunscreen, flip-flops, sarong, shell bag, paperback novel, bottled water and more. Now, you just have to get it all down to the beach with you. Toting your essentials is easy when you select the right beach bag.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a robust beach tote made of a strong material. Canvas or dual-ply nylon bags are the strongest and will last many seasons.

  2. Step 2

Select a lightweight bag. You will probably be carrying many items, so you don't want the bag to weigh much by itself.

  3. Step 3

Check out beach bags that are roomy and have multiple pockets. A large, compartmentalized bag will carry your various items and keep them organized.

  4. Step 4

Look for a bag that is mildew proof and washable. Beach bags are going to get wet, so it's best to have one made for the conditions.

  5. Step 5

Select beach bags that are easy to clean. Consider a surface material that wipes off easily, such as vinyl for both the interior and exterior of the bag.

  6. Step 6

Check the handles on your beach tote. They need to be comfortable and sturdy. Look for totes with both handles and shoulder straps for versatility. Check out Sunfitters at Sunfitters.com for wonderful options (see Resources below).

  7. Step 7

Opt for a beach bag that is guaranteed to be fade resistant. Your bag will probably sit in the sun for hours at a time, so it will need to be colorfast.

  8. Step 8

Buy a bag that has wet/dry compartments. A soggy bathing suit or towel can ruin that paperback you haven't finished.

  9. Step 9

Look for an insulated bag for carrying food and drink. This is an especially nice feature if you are taking an infant and don't want to lug a diaper bag as well.

  10. Step 10

Choose a bag with zippers to keep your items from falling on the ground. Zippers are better than snaps or buttons, as they provide secure closures.

  11. Step 11

Choose a straw bag that can double as a regular pocketbook. These are stylish as well as functional.

  12. Step 12

Pick a bag that can be monogrammed with your name or embroidered with a favorite saying for a personal touch.

  13. Step 13

Charge your iPod, phone or camera with a Juice bag. This solar-powered product allows you to keep your gadgets ready for use. Find a Juice bag at Rewarestore.com (see Resources below).
