1
Create a resume listing all of your qualifications, work history, skills and education, including volunteer experience and academic or community awards. It's a good idea to look at some sample resumes to get an idea of how yours should look. You can check out an example of a summer job resume at JobStar.org (see Resources below).
-
2
Start up a babysitting service by posting flyers in local coffee shops, community centers, park buildings, churches or synagogues and daycare centers. You'll also want to network through friends of your family and the parents of other students in your class.

3
Apply for a summer camp counselor position. You can find sleep-away and day camps in your area by visiting the CampResource.com website (see Resources below).
-
4
Get a job as a lifeguard by enrolling in certification classes at a local YMCA. You will need a current lifeguard certification, excellent swimmer skills and good physical health for this job.
-
5
Walk dogs or pet sit. If you have a love for animals, you might consider working as a dog walker or pet sitter. Speak with your friends, relatives and neighbors about watching their pets for them, and post flyers in the locations mentioned in step 2.
-
6
Obtain a paper delivery route. You must have a driver's license and reliable vehicle or a bike to ride. Most delivery routes are early in the morning for three or four hours a day.
-
7
Look for a job at a local mall or retail store. Many retail stores hire students to work during the summer. Not only can you make money, but you usually get an employee discount at that particular store.
-
8
Detail cars by washing and cleaning them during the summer. You will have to purchase all of your supplies but you can easily make that money back once you get your business going.
-
9
Gather your old things and have a yard or garage sale. This is an easy way to make some quick cash on things you no longer need.
-
10
Mow lawns and clean houses during the summer. You might need to purchase your own lawn mower, but it could be worth the investment.
-
11
Locate a summer job by visiting websites like the USAJobs.gov website and the EmploymentGuide.com website (see Resources below). You'll be able to search by location as well as industry.
